Next up is Glo Skin Beauty Hydra-Bright AHA Hydrator which is my favorite lightweight moisturizer followed by Elta MD Renew Eye Gel and then I place the Farmhouse Fresh Full Moon Dip Illumination Mousse with Peptides and Retinol under the eye area and to the top of my cheekbones for a brightening effect under my eyes. I refer to this as my “highlighter for mature skin.”

We are fresh off an education experience with Aubrey Harley, L’Oreal Professional Educator, and wow what an experience it was! Do you ever have someone that you can just spend time with and they reignite your passion for your industry? If so, then you can imagine what our experience was like. A few things really stood out to me and I wanted to share them with you today.

First is the Metal Detox line. We all know a good detox is always great for our bodies because if you are like me, you don’t always eat and drink the best things. But why should we have a detox for the hair? Did you know that our water has metals in it?

Although the amount of metal in our water is deemed safe for consumption, it can really wreck havoc on the integrity of our hair. Can you believe that it is almost time to go back to school?!? Where did our summer go? Hopefully you did something fun with friends or your family. Our family spent the summer traveling the state as our two kids represented Hartsville while participating in their favorite sports.

As we are making final preparations for a new school year, we’ve been sure to add a few beauty checkboxes to our list. I’m happy to share with you, some of our favorite back to school beauty traditions.

A fresh haircut is always on my son’s list, he loves a close clipper cut and loves the American Crew 3 in 1 shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Guys are always so easy! As for my daughter, back to school manicure and pedicures are always a must and honestly it is a fun tradition. We also love the liquid dermabrasion facial to have a fresh face for the first day! Finally, a little balayage gives a natural enhancement to those summer highlights and she is ready to tackle a new year!

This was always a question that I had and if I’m being honest, I had the wrong answer for way too long, “No.” As someone who had oily skin and oily hair, I was afraid that the increase in oil would make the problems worse so I steered away from any products with the scary “O” word. Then a few years ago I decided to give it a try. Maybe I was bored from our COVID shutdown and reading lots and lots of product information (haha) but something made me give it a go. I’m so excited to share with you why I can now say that I love oils and what all they can do for your body and hair!

First let’s talk about your hair, my go to hair oil is the Kerastase Elixir Ultime. It’s their iconic nourishing hair oil for all hair types and is infused with a blend of argan hair oil, camellia oil and marula hair oil. I work three pumps into my hair after the shower before detangling, let it sit for a minute or two and then it works like magic to make my detangling comb slide right through my hair. It also helps to smooth my hair, fights frizz and is a heat protectant. Did I mention how good it smells? Ah-mazing!!!! As an added treat, I include it in my Sunday night treatment routine by adding a few drops into my weekly masque hair treatment. Any extra is great to rub on elbows and knees.

Sunscreen has come a long way over the last decade (thankfully!!). Sunscreen is the number one way to fight the signs of aging (hello, sign me up!!) If you are doing any type of repair services – think microderm, liquid dermabrasion, microchanneling, etc. – then you are going to want to protect your investment right? If so, then daily sunscreen use even in the winter time is a must. There are so many to choose from how do you know what is the best for you? The first question that you need to ask is do you want just a sunscreen or are you looking for tint/coverage as well? Let’s break down those two categories.

First up, sunscreen with tint. For those looking to add a little coverage, there are so many options. Tinted sunscreens are our most popular. Elta MD features several products with universal tint. My personal favorite is the UV Restore Tinted. It works to reverse the signs of aging, protects my skin and provides enough coverage that I don’t need a liquid foundation. For my teenage daughter, I love the UV Clear Tinted. She wears it daily as her “foundation” and I know that it is helping to keep her skin clear as well as protecting her from sun damage. This one also works well for my blond haired, blue eyed boy with sensitive skin. One of our favorite skin care tools is retinol (second only to our SPFs). Let’s talk about what a powerhouse it is and why we love it so much! Retinol is a derivative of Vitamin A, one of the body’s key necessities for boosting cell turnover. Retinol helps reduce inflammation, diminish hyperpigmentation (bye-bye brown spots!!), accelerate skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen production. The result? Smoother, firmer and brighter skin (hello young and fresh face). I mean, what’s not to love about such a powerful skin care tool?

Application Methods

Now that you have a better understanding of retinol, let’s break it down so we can find the perfect retinol product for your skin. Everyone can benefit from a retinol product; the trick is finding a retinol product and schedule that works best for your skin care needs. You can start retinol at any age, so whether you are just starting to see the signs of aging or you want to use it as a preventative agent, it is a great product. Just remember- slow and steady wins the race! Everyone has a different reactive level, so start using it in your nighttime routine twice a week instead of every night. You can build additional days from there and if you notice that you are getting a reaction, just have patience- don’t abort the mission. A few quick ways to deliver a more controlled (think lighter) dose, is to use a serum such as GlyPro Retinol Drops. Just a few drops to start and then you can work your way up to 4-6 drops (full strength). Still thinking this might be too much? Just add a few drops to your moisturizer and it magically becomes less reactive. For those with super reactive skin, short contact therapy is a great alternative. Simply apply the product and then wash it off after 15 minutes.

Follow these easy instructions for smooth and radiant skin:

STEP 1

Cleanse the face with Glycolic Resurfacing Cleanser, avoiding the eye area.

STEP 2

Saturate one gauze pad with Pro 5 Liquid Exfoliant (use about half the bottle). Swipe evenly all over the face, then discard cotton gauze. Allow to dry for about 30 seconds, and then saturate the second gauze pad with the remaining Pro 5 Exfoliant and repeat application. Allow face to dry and discard gauze pad.
